David Toledo, Ph.D.
Director of Worship Studies
Dr. Toledo serves as the Director of Worship Studies at CBU where he leads the undergraduate and graduate programs in Worship Studies. Prior to coming to CBU, he served as the Assistant Dean of the School of Church Music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He has spoken at numerous national and international conferences on music and worship and is published widely. He has served as a worship pastor and leader in churches in Louisiana, Texas, and California for the past 25 years.
Hector Gabriel Jimenez
Assistant Professor, Worship Studies
Professor Jimenez serves as Assistant Professor in the School of Music at California Baptist University and is the Program Director of the BA in Music for Worship Arts and Ministry degree program. He serves as a worship leader at his home church, Fellowship Monrovia, and also as the worship leader for Chapel at CBU. He remains constant in his art as a songwriter and recording artist. Hector has spent over a decade leading in music ministry as a worship leader/pastor and has shepherded volunteers as well as developed aspiring leaders. With great passion he has led bands of various styles, choirs of many sizes, and teams in multiple different settings. With a heart for worship, Hector has encouraged many different congregations to sing to Jesus, and continues to do so with great with great joy.
Assistant Professor, Worship Studies
Professor Steve Dahlgren serves as an Assistant Professor of Worship Studies and provides leadership in the areas of musical development for worship leadership. He currently serves as the conductor of the University Choir and Orchestra, which performs numerous concernts throughout Southern California and nationally each year. Dahlgren has served as a worship leader and musician for many years and brings a heart for discipleship and personal development to our worship studies program.
Joseph Bolin, D.M.A.
Dean, School of Music
Dr. Joseph Bolin serves as the Dean of the School of Music at California Baptist University and is an active faculty member within the Worship Studies Division. He has served as a worship pastor in churches in Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and California and brings a wealth of pastoral, musical, and leadership experience to our programs. He holds a D.M.A. and M.M. in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Southern Illinois University.
Nia Allen, D.Min.
Teaching Faculty/Worship Leadership
Dr. Nia Allen serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member and Worship Advisory Board Member for the School of Music. A Gospel singer, Worship Leader and Recording Artist, Nia is one of this generation’s fresh talents leading the way in praise and worship through music that is honest, uplifting and captivating to the soul. Her ministry impacts the lives of many. A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a B.A. in Music Education, Nia holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Azusa Pacific University with a concentration in worship and reconciliation. She has garnered the attention of top artists and producers in the industry, and has been a background vocalist for CeCe Winans, Nicole C. Mullen, and many others. A recurring guest artist on TBN’s Praise the Lord program, she has also traveled extensively with the Women of Faith and Beth Moore’s “Living Proof Live” conferences, leading worship to thousands of women. Nia understands the power of worship and its ability to bring God’s people together. Her prayer is that the music and ministry God has given will transcend racial barriers and serve as a means of healing and unity within the Body of Christ.
